Summer Update + Artsy

July 7, 2018

Phew summer is flying by and I have been out there enjoying life (in real life)! June was spent at the beach - Atlantic Beach, NY - where my grandparents used to have a beach house that we would visit every Labor Day. That house has long ago been sold, torn down, and rebuilt, but my sister was feeling nostalgic now that we have kids, so we found a monthly rental in this small, quiet, Long Island community, and decamped there for a whole month.

It was a month spent hosting family and friends coming and going, hitting up the waves and the swing set and grilling burgers while drinking beer. I didn't get as much painting done as I had hoped, but I did a ton of reading, catching up on The New Yorker magazine and finishing a few books on the Kindle - catch my whole summer reading list here.

I worked on an abstract floral commission in periwinkle, and that painting process continued to spur on my desire to create more and more of these expressive up-close-and-personal flowers. So that's my current plan for the rest of the summer ~ create a whole collection dedicated to these florals that I'll be able to launch for sale come fall. Stay tuned, and for a sneak peek, become an HLC Insider here.

In other exciting news, Arts Letters & Numbers, the artist residency program I attended last year in Upstate New York, has been named one of Artsy's "Most Inspiring Design Residencies" - read the full list here. Reading about this and the others on the list makes me want to venture afield to paint some more!

Happy painting, reading, swimming and SUMMER

At The Art Store...Or, Where All My Money Goes

January 17, 2018

The art store is so dangerous! If I don't approach it with a plan, I'll find uses for all sorts of random things that I find wandering the aisles.

In conceptualizing my Winter White Collection, I knew I needed to stock up on white and silver paint, glitter and various size boards and canvases. Luckily I didn't get roped into buying totally unnecessary goodies.

ooooooo all the rainbow paint!

and rows and rows of canvas!

I was very tempted by these paint spatulas....but I restrained myself :)

I was also intrigued by this crackle paste that you mix with colored paint and when it dries, it cracks for some serious texture.

After my physical shopping spree, I went online to find some other paint colors that I decided I'd probably needed...and now time to jump into the work!

If you follow me on Instagram (@hannahlowecorman) you'll get a few more preview shots of the beginning stages of the paintings. Looking forward to hearing what you think!

"Bleached" In Progress

September 5, 2017

What a beautiful summer/fall day here in NYC! Ean and I took a shady walk up Central Park West with my Aunt Laurie, stopping in our favorite coffee bean store for a bag of the requisite pumpkin spice beans and looking in on the baby boutiques for fall and winter clothes.

This week I'm looking forward to...(1) getting out of the house more and taking some walks, (2) as well as finishing up my Fall 2017 Collection of paintings entitled "Bleached" and inspired by my travels in Arizona and New Mexico.

Thanks for all the positive feedback on last week's Inspiration Blog ~ I loved hearing from you about what you found interesting or cool!

This week, as I've started actually painting, I'm getting inspired by these wedding and photo booth backdrops I've painted.

(PS These are SO FUN to paint and make really unique wedding/party decor - and a cool keepsake - so keep me in mind if you or someone you know is party planning :D )

I love the abstract water-colory look (even though they're all acrylic) and the gold accents.

I'm going to marry the approach and brushstrokes of the large backdrops with the colors of my Southwest inspiration to create this Fall 2017 Collection. And since I've been experimenting more and more with the heavy and aggressive marks of the palette knife, I'll of course be incorporating that technique too.

Below I'm sharing a few "in progress" behind the scenes shots of what I'm working on:

Stay tuned for how these and the rest turn out....and I'd love to know what you think so far!
